Capitol honors Friese

September 20, 2012

State Rep. Joel Johnson, R-Clare, welcomed Gladwin Fire Department Chief George Alward and his wife Polly to the state Capitol for a memorial of the 11th anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon buildings. The Sept. 11 ceremony also honored Michigan first responders and members of the military who gave their lives in the line of duty during 2011 and 2012. During that honor roll call on the House floor, Johnson read the name of Army Pfc. Robert Friese of Harrison, who died while fighting in Iraq on April 29, 2011; State Trooper Jeffrey Werda, a Gladwin native who was killed April 6, 2011 in an automobile accident while responding to assist Saginaw County deputies, also was recognized.
