Clare City officials made a surprise visit to the Clare firemen’s meeting Monday evening. The event was to honor fireman Chief Jim Chapman and to present him with a key to the city. Jim started with the department in 1977 and was on the department until he moved to Bay City where he was on the Bay City force for 27 years and retired as Captain. Jim moved back to Clare and became fire chief in 2009.
Mayor Humphrey praised Chief Chapman for the dedication and service he has given to the community and fire department. Humphrey said that it is nice to go home and feel safe; knowing in case of a fire, the dedicated and well trained personnel of the fire department is in the ready.
Jim thanked the mayor and the city council for the honor. Jim said; “It is the dedication of the men and women in the department that makes it all happen.”
