Chester Levi Nelson – age 96 of Farwell, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Monday, December 31, 2012 at Mid Michigan Medical Center – Clare. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 5, 2013 from Campbell – Stocking Family Funeral Home, Farwell. Rev. Fr. William Rutkowski will officiate with burial following in St. Cecilia Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM and on Saturday from 10-11 AM prior to the service. A Fraternal Order of Eagles memorial service will held at 6:30 PM on Friday by FOE Lodge # 3977.
Chester was born on November 23, 1916 the son of Levi and Manda (Sales) Nelson in Ames, Iowa. He married Eva E. LaBrie on October 12, 1937 in Little Falls, MN after 5 years of courtship. The love of his life preceded him in death after 69 years of marriage on June 17, 2007. Chester was a farmer in MN until he was 35 years old. He then worked as an Installer and repair of heating and air conditioning. He was a life member of the Clare FOE #3977, the Clare Moose Lodge #1038 and was also involved in numerous other clubs and organizations.
He is survived by one son, Gary Nelson and wife Etta of Highland, MI; two daughters, Hazel Griffin of Farwell, and Arlene Sebastin of Rosebush; 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren; one sister, Galilee Glanville of Redland, CA; nephew, “adopted son” Dennis Nelson of Farwell; a sister-in-law, Lorrraine Wolfe of Birmingham, MI; numerous other relatives and friends. Besides his wife and parents, Chester was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Nelson and his wife Sue.
