The Clare volleyball team had its season come to an end at the Big Rapids district on Wednesday, Nov. 6, suffering a district semi-finals loss to Chippewa Hills, 25-7, 25-8 and 25-17.

“We could not seem to get into the game,” Clare head coach Emily Blackburn said. “We couldn’t get our passing in which in turn doesn’t let us get many attacks in. It is clear when we can do this, we can earn points.”

Cassidy Campbel had two kill on 14 attacks and one ace, Kenzie Humphrey had one kills, one assist, six digs and served at 100 percent, Alex Rowell had four digs and served at 100 percent, Mackenzie Thayer had one kills, one assist and served at 100 percent and Laura Walton had three digs, one block and served at 100 percent.

“We had a good year,” Blackburn said. “It was a building year. We didn’t get all the wins, however we got a couple and the majority of the team improved from beginning of the season to the end of the season.”

The Lady Pioneers finished the season 2-12 in the Jack Pine Conference.

“Next year I should have five-to-six returning senior girls that all seem to have huge love for the game of volleyball,” Blackburn said. “When they play they leave it all on the court. I am looking forward to next year. We need to get a few hitters to get some more power so they can be the powerhouse hitters for us next year. We will e working with a few girls that will be coming in as juniors next year in hopes of making our back row stronger.”
