Clare went 1-2 in a Jack Pine Conference quad meet at Meridian on Wednesday, Oct. 24, ending the Lady Pioneer’s regular season schedule.
Clare opened the day against Houghton Lake, falling 15-25, 25-16 and 25-21.
The Lady Pioneers then topped Farwell 18-25, 25-12 and 25-13.
“Farwell came back strong and played well in the middle of the (first set),” Clare head coach Tom Hurdle said. “In set two (we) came to life, served well and improved our offense. In set three (we) continued to play well on both offense and defense.”
Clare played host Meridian in the final match of the day, falling 25-13 and 25-19 to the JPC champions.
“(We) gave Meridian a scare for most of the second set,” Hurdle said. “But Meridian’s potent attack was too much.”
Anna Giacomozzi led Clare with 25 kills and 39 digs, Courtney English had 24 kills, 39 digs, five blocks and one ace, Ashley Petree had 16 kills and 32 blocks, Erica Packard added six kills and 40 digs, Katelyn Smith had seven kills and three aces and Bailey Reger added 16 digs and three aces.
Clare finished the regular season 18-20-3 overall and 6-8 in the JPC. The Lady Pioneers hosted Reed City yesterday in the district semi-finals with the finals being played on Saturday at noon.
