A four run fourth inning was all the Gladwin Flying G’s needed Tuesday night, pulling off a 4-0 pre-district baseball upset over Clare at the Pinconning pre-district.
Gladwin’s Shawn Larner struck out 12 Clare batters to earn the win, while Tyler Warner suffered the loss for Clare, pitching 4 1/3 innings, giving up three runs, one earned on three hits and four walks.
“We had 12 strikeouts at the plate even though we out hit them six to four,” Clare head coach Marc Yenkel said. “Larner deserves most of the credit for Gladwin, he pitched a great game and kept us off balance.”
Cameron Smith had two hits for Clare, with Shane Adkins adding a double.
Clare’s softball team topped Gladwin 8-1 in their pre-district contest, though stats were not provided at press time. The Lady Pioneers continue their season on Saturday in the Pinconning district
