The Clare boys’ varsity basketball team hosted Roscommon on Friday and topped the Bucks handily, 71-46 in Jack Pine Conference play.
“We were pretty aggressive on offense early in the game,” Clare head coach Rob Wise said. “Our post players were doing a nice job getting position and finishing.”
Clare netted 21 points in the first quarter to lead 21-9 after the first and pulled ahead 39-20 at the half.
The Pioneers continued to cruise in the second half, outscoring the Bucks 22-14 in the third to lead 61-34 entering the fourth. Roscommon outscored Clare 22-10 in the fourth to account for the 71-56 final.
“We left a lot of improvement,” Wise said. “Our defense can be better and we had our worst gam eof the year from the free throw line.”
Colton Punches led Clare with 14 points, seven assists and five steals, Scott Smith had 10 points and seven rebounds, Connor Clickner had 10 points and four assists with Travis Vida and Max Swan both adding eight.
Clare (5-3 overall, 3-2 JPC) played at Gladwin on Wednesday, plays at Houghton Lake tonight (Friday) and hosts Coleman on Monday.
