Clare businessman dies in crash

Robert S. Allen, 62, a life-long Clare resident and long-time Clare business owner, died in an accident Friday, December 16, after a car accident on Maple Road, between Clare and Farwell.

Bob was the owner of an insurance office, Allen Agency, located on East Fourth Street in Clare.

He was reported missing Friday evening at approximately 6:30 p.m. when he didn’t return home. Clare Police and Clare County Sheriff’s Department officials with the help of concerned citizens immediately began a search for Allen.

A resident of Maple Road spotted Allen’s vehicle off the south side of the road on Saturday morning. It appeared that he had been traveling westbound when the vehicle went off the road, according to police.

The crash is being investigated by the Clare County Sheriff’s Department Accident Reconstruction Team.

Allen was a graduate of Clare High School and Ferris State University. He was active in the Clare Rotary Club and the Clare Downtown Development Authority.

He leaves a wife of 40 years, Sue; a daughter Kristin and son-in-law Kevin Bull of Rochester Hills; a son Matthew and daughter in law Kristine Allen of Brownsburg, Indiana; four grandchildren: Brady and Caroline Bull and Sophie and Gus Allen; his brother Jim and sister-in-law Judy Allen of Clare; brothers and sisters-in-law: Steve and Patty Luplow of Garland Texas and Kelly and Chris Luplow of Clare; and mother-in-law Nina Lou Luplow of Clare.

Private services for the family have been scheduled and a Public Gathering was held Thursday, December 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Clare Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.
