Both of Clare’s cross country team’s won Wednesday’s Sanford-Meridian Invitational, topping 10 other teams from the area.
The girl’s team had 50 points, with second place Bullock Creek earning 78.
Melissa Benchley had a time of 23:02 to come in third place, Madison McPhee placed seventh at 23:29, Sam Gray took 10th at 24:14, Paige Gould was 14th at 24:54 and Amanda Yats was 20th at 25:55.
The boy’s team won with 55 points, while Freeland placed second with 66.
Hunter Nivison took second overall with a time of 17:38, Lucas Combs was fourth at 17:53, Kyler Phillps was 11th at 18:54, Kevin Spicer-Torres was 12th at 18:55 and Chase Field came in 26th at 20:06.
On Wednesday, Aug. 29 Clare hosted its own invitational, which pitted athletes in races based on grade.
Nine graderers Madison McPhee took fifth place with a time of 23:42, Sam Gray was sixth at 23”50, Paige Gould was 13th at 25:40, Brooke Beatty was 20th at 26:55 and Megan Sheredy was 23rd at 27:45.
In the 10th grade race, Saide Phillips took sixth place at 23:03 and Olivia Walworth took 17th at 25:59.
Victoria Harper finished third in the junior race, coming in at at time of 20:16, Lindsay Winter placed fifth at 21:02, Robyn Stanley was ninth at 22:29, Amanda Yats was 19th at 25:31.
In the senior race, Melissa Benchley led the way with an 11th place finish and tie of 23:24, Rocio Spicer-Torres was 22nd at 27:31 and Paige Onstott was 31st at 32:52.
For the boys, in the freshmen race Chase Field took seventh at 20:38, Nick Wertheimer took 38th at 24:15, sophomores were led by Kevin Spicer-Torress in third at 18:53, Kyler Phillips took fifth at 19:16, Mike Wertheimer took 10th at 22:44, juniors Hunter Nivison took third at 18:06 and Brock Demo placed 13th at 20:32.
For the seniors, Lucas Combs placed sixth at 17:52 and Riley Crawford placed 18th at 20:40.
Clare competes tomorrow at the Bullock Creek Invitational.
