Clare competed in its last wrestling meet of the calender year at Chippewa Hills on Saturday, coming in ninth place in the 19 team event.
Shelby won the meet, Tri-County took second, Chippewa Hills took third and Bullock Creek was fourth. Clare came in fifth despite voiding five weight classes.
“This was a pretty remarkable feat for this wrestling team to pull off,” head coach Kyle McKay said. “We wrestled some really tough matches and have a great deal of insight as to what we need to improve on the upcoming year.”
Top wrestlers for Clare on the day included a first place finish for Logan Emery (160), with teammate Steven Bentley coming in eighth in the same weight class.
Brandon Ayris (171) took second place, falling in the finals by an 8-6 decision. Eric Litke also wrestled in 171, coming in fifth place with his only loss coming to Ayris.
Brenden Hensley (215) and Bob Green (285) both went 2-1 on the day to take a pair of third place finishes and Zach Betzer (152) went 3-2 to come in sixth place.
Hart Smalley (189) also went 3-2, finishing in seventh place.
