The Clare soccer team dropped a pair of Northern Michigan Soccer League games earlier this week. On Tuesday, the Pioneers hosted Ogemaw Heights, a contest they lost 4-0. A day earlier, the team played in Roscommon in another league battle, dropping this one 6-0.

On Saturday Clare hosted its own tournament. The team opened up with a 3-0 win over Reed City in the first match but followed that with a 2-0 loss to Boyne City and a 1-0 loss to Bullock Creek.

Jake Hawley had two goals in the win while Alec Hoffman had one. Ethan Cobb played in goal, making six saves to get the shutout.

“All things considered it was a good day for us,” head coach Doug Helmling said. “The teams we faced were strong teams and we played well with everyone on our roster contributing.”

Clare was in Pine River on Thursday, hosts McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Tuesday and heads to Gladwin on Thursday.
