The Clare girls soccer team wasn’t able to dethrone defending Northern Michigan Soccer League champions Houghton Lake Tuesday. The Lady Bobcats came to down and handed the Lady Pioneers a 3-0 setback.
“They were champions of the league last year and they’re very good again this year,” head coach Jim Bond said.

Leah Palmer and Tabby Alexander shared time in goal, combining for 14 saves during the contest. The Bobcats blasted the Pioneers for 17 shots on goal while Clare could only get off two shots.

On Friday the Pioneers edged Big Rapids Crossroads in a home NMSL contest, 2-1.

“The game was very windy, so it had a big impact on the game,” Bond said.
The Pioneers survived the windy conditions and got 31 shots on goal, while allowing Crossroads only 10.

Gwen Sherwood found the back of the net twice to account for both of Clare’s goals while Palmer was in goal and made nine saves.

Clare (3-1-2, 2-1-1 NMSL) hosted McBain Northern Michigan Christian on Thursday, hosts Ogemaw Heights on Tuesday and makes the trip to Ithaca on Thursday for a non-league match-up.
