For a half the Clare girls’ soccer team played with undefeated McBain Northern Michigan Christian. The second half was all Lady Comets however, as host NMC handed the Lady Pioneers a 6-0 Northern Michigan Soccer League Southern Division loss.

“We played really tough in the first half,” Clare head coach Jim Bond said of the game that was scoreless at the half. “We made a mistake on defense and that led to a goal. Then before you know it they made it 2-0 and 3-0. Then I put my subs in and they scored three more goals. When they scored their second goal the winds kind of went out of our sails.”
On Monday Clare played a game at Gladwin in another NMSL matchup, falling 4-1.

The Flying G’s led the contest 3-0 by the end of the half but Clare managed to play with them evening in the final 40 minutes.
“We came out slowly but the second half, we settled in and played pretty well,” Bond said.
