Clare Ski Team busy

Clare Ski Team has been busy this past week, competing in two conference events: the Saginaw Heritage Invitational at Apple Mountain and the Central Alpine Ski Conference Meet at Snow Snake.  At Apple Mountain, both boys and girls teams claimed second place. Top Pioneer finishers were first place Jeffrey Staten in slalom, second place Madi Cleary in slalom, and third place Brett Acton in giant slalom.

In the Conference Meet at Snow Snake on Thursday, the pioneer boys were victorious, taking home the title of Conference Champions. Leading the boys in slalom was Brett Acton in second place, Jeffrey Staten in third place, Zack Brockway in fifth place, and Jordan Hales in tenth place.  Staten led the boys in giant slalom with an individual third place, followed by Acton in fourth place, and Hales in tenth place.   The Clare Pioneer girls claimed the second place spot in the conference meet, finishing behind first place Harrison.  Madi Cleary took an individual second place in slalom, followed by Maggie Merillat in fifth place, Leah Bugbee in eleventh place, and Laura Myers in fifteenth place.  Merillat led the pioneer ladies in giant slalom with a third place finish, Cleary in fourth place, Bugbee in tenth, and Myers in eighteenth.

Says coach Jann Cleary, “I’m really proud of how both teams competed in all of their conference meets.  The boys worked hard to earn their title of ‘Conference Champions’.  Now we have our sights set on doing well at the Regional Meet in two weeks.”
