The Clare varsity girls soccer team dropped four games last week, with the latest coming Tuesday night at Lakeview by a score of 3-0.
They’re very good, they have seven seniors and four juniors starting,” Clare head coach Joe Zavaglia said. “We are young and couldn’t overcome their size and experience. Full credit to Lakeview, they did what they we’re supposed to do, they’re a good team.”
The contest was a scoreless tie at the half, and Corrine Wezensky made 21 saves in goal.
“She was unbelievable in goal, she’s only a sophomore so she’s going to be special,” Zavaglia said.
On Saturday, the Lady Pioneers fell 5-0 to Tawas Area and tied Standish-Sterling 0-0 at the Standish Invitational.
On Thursday, April 26 Clare dropped a road Northern Michigan Soccer League contest, 8-0 to Roscommon.
“We’re struggling with serious injuries,” Zavaglia said. “We brought up half our JV team. It was a real patchwork job of getting a team to travel.
Clare (4-5-2 overall, 3-3 NMSL) plays at Cheboygan on May 8.
