The Clare varsity volleyball team topped visiting Harrison Wednesday night, topping the visiting Lady Hornets 25-14, 25-14 and 25-17.
“(We) started out strong with very good serving and hitting,” Clare head coach Tom Hurdle said. “Defensively (we) also continue to improve both on serve-receive and attack receive.”
The Pioneers had 27 kills and 20 aces in the match and served at 90.4 percent.
Clare was led by Katelynn Smith with 24 assists, eight aces, six digs and was 19-of-20 serving. Anna Giacomozzi led the team with 10 kills and 11 digs, Courtney English had 12 digs and seven kills, Ashley Petree had five kills, 10 digs and two blocks and Erica Packard had 13 digs, four aces and three kills.
“The win goes to Clare this time,” Harrison head coach Larry Flemming said. “We play them again Monday in Houghton Lake… We have a few days to work on blocking so I look for a different outcome next time.”
Erica Heckman led the Hornets with three kills, Olivia Sharp had 28 assists, two blocks and two assists, Hillary Brewer had three blocks and Taylor Bondie had two aces and one block.
Clare (11-10-2 overall, 3-1 JPC) plays at the Houghton Lake quad on Monday and hosts Beaverton on Wednesday.
Harrison plays at the Houghton Lake quad as well and hosts Roscommon on Monday.
