Coleman woman dies in Monday accident

A two car accident Monday morning east of Clare resulted in the death of a 53-year-old Coleman woman.

According to Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski, Deputies were called to the scene around 9:18 a.m. on the corner of North Leaton Road and Peré Marquette (Old U.S.10) in Wise Township east of Clare.

Reportedly Donna Marie Townsend was driving a 2007 Ford Focus northbound on North Leaton Road when she ran the stop sign at Peré Marquette and hit a 2008 Buick LaCrosse Driven by Geraldine Lea Coon, 67, also of Coleman. Both vehicles ran off the roadway ending up in a field, Mioduszewski said.

Townsend was taken to MidMichigan Medical Center – Clare where she was pronounced dead. Coon was also taken to MMMC-Clare with lacerations, possible broken bones and possible internal injuries.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles and both were wearing seat belts, police said.

Isabella Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Clare Fire Department, Clare Police Department, Michigan State Police, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Mobile Medical Response.

The accident is still under investigation.
