Colosky, Baldwin expected to lead Farwell to banner year

By Ben Murphy

The Farwell girls’ golf team got its season underway on Thursday, Aug. 22, hosting an early season invitational at Eagle Glen Golf Course.

Junior Bria Colosky won the 18-hole event with an 83, senior Sammie Baldwin carded an 86 and freshman Kasey Staley hit a 99 to place fourth.

Haley Lewis also competed but did not tally a final score.

“Low on numbers, but we still have a strong team,” Farwell head coach TJ Staley said. “We qualified for state last year with four golfers so we are optimistic. Colosky finished 10th and 9th (at states) the last two years and was voted all-state both years as well. We are the only girls team in the Jack Pine Conference so our main priority is to not only qualify as a team for state but to finish in the top eight. We also have a good chance of breaking our school record (nine-holes 194 and 18-holes 392).

The Lady Eagles return to the links Sept. 16 at Alma.
