The lucky thirteenth annual Farwell Lumberjack Festival, organized by the Farwell Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held July 27, and 28.
The weekend starts off with the Surrey Township Fire Department’s annual Spaghetti Supper on Friday evening at 5 p.m.
All the Saturday and Sunday activities are centered around the Village Park.
The event brings back some of the fun our forefathers used to enjoy. There is a Craft Show each day beginning at 9 a.m. Old fashioned contests and special events, some once a part of the lumbering era in Michigan, are a big part of the festival each year with a Kids Pedal Pull, Sawdust Treasure Hunt, Bubble Gum Blowing, and the traditional Greased Pig contests all for the kids.
Bubblegum Blowing is at 2:30 Saturday. The Sawdust Treasure Hunt is 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Greased Pig Contest, always a hit at the festival is set for 11 a.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday for kids from 3 to 16 years old.
Another popular event, the Kids’ Pedal Pull is set for 1 p.m. Sunday in the Wyman parking lot;
The kids will also love the Hay Rides from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and the Pony Rides all day beginning at 10 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. There are even Barrel Train Rides from 9-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. on Saturday and again from 10 a.m. to noon and 2-4 p.m. on Sunday.
Kids’ Carnival Games are scheduled on Sunday from 9-11a.m.
For the adults, there’s the Lumberjack 5K Run at the Little League Field. Registration is between 8 and 8:45 a.m. Saturday morning and the run begins at 9 a.m.
The festival also features, a Fire Department Charity Softball Tournament (beginning at 3:30 p.m. Saturday) at the Little League Field.
For all ages, the Limbo Contest is at 10 a.m. Sunday and a Karaoke Contest is set for 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Everyone will enjoy an Enhanced Car Show in the Wyman parking lot (from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday) featuring cars, trucks, tractors and motorcycles.
What is more old-fashioned than horseshoes? The Horseshoe Tournament begins with the Singles Open Division on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Doubles Open Division is set for 10 a.m. on Sunday and the 6th Annual Lumberjack Horseshoe Tournament begins at noon on Sunday (registration is at 11 a.m.).
Those famous Lumberjack Shows are scheduled at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday;
Chainsaw Carving Competitions are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, again at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday with the Carvers Auction beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Chicken Chuckin’ for the ladies is at 4 p.m. on Saturday; and the Skillet Toss is on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
The Chili Cook-Off begins Sunday at 11 a.m. Judging (and tasting) is at 2 p.m. Registration is from 10 to 11 a.m. Sunday.
The Pie Eating Contest will be held in the Pavilion at 2 p.m.
Entertainment in the Pavilion on Saturday will include Steven and the Keys at 1 p.m. and the Red Hat Strutters at 3:30 p.m.
Drawing for the Lumberjack Raffle is set for 3 p.m. on Sunday.
For a look at Farwell’s History, don’t forget to stop in at the Museum. It will be open Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.
As always the festival will end at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
