In May, MidMichigan Health, Shelterhouse of Midland and Gladwin counties, along with other local agencies, challenged women to step up and take charge of their health with three offerings of the Women’s Empower Health Conferences. Held in Alma , Clare and Midland , more than 120 women attended the conferences held in recognition of National Women’s Health Week.
Participants engaged in a variety of activities to help them assess their current health status, make goals, and take specific actions to improve their health.
Women enjoyed free health screenings, such as a total lipid profile, blood glucose and blood pressure checks, weight, BMI and waist circumference reviews, and bone density heel scans. In addition, several demonstrations were offered and informational booths available on topics such as sleep disorders, weight management, rehabilitation services, home care services, smoking cessation, exercise facilities, women’s health services, domestic violence, sexual violence prevention, and substance abuse prevention.
