For the third time in less than a year and the fourth in the past ten years, a bank has been robbed in Clare County.
Less than two months ago Clinton Cole and Ruth Loomis were arrested and charged with robbing two Harrison branches of Chemical Bank after a similar holdup the same day in Cadillac. Chemical Bank’s Farwell branch was robbed June 22, 2004.
Kelly Randall, 44, of Sears was charged with the latest robbery.
Police got a report last Friday at 3:53 p.m. that the Lake Branch of Isabella Bank had been robbed by a man wearing a black hoodie, who reportedly walked into the bank, threatened a teller saying that he had a gun and demanded money. He escaped in a newer wine colored SUV and headed north on Lake Station Avenue, according to Clare County Sheriff John Wilson.
The Clare County Sheriff’s Department posted the surveillance video from the scene. December 1, a local citizen called in to say he knew who the man was and where he lived.
Detectives from the CCSD, assisted by Troopers from the Mt. Pleasant State Police Post went to Randall’s home in Sears
and after interviewing him, made the arrest.
Authorities recovered an undisclosed amount of money taken from the bank. Undersheriff Dwayne Miedzianowski said over
$6,200 was taken in the robbery.
Randall was arraigned by Magistrate Karen Willing on Monday in 80th District Court on a two-count felony warrant for Armed Robbery and Bank Robbery. He was also put on novice as a fourth offense Habitual Offender.
Bond was set at $1,000,000 cash/surety. Randall remains lodged at the Clare County Jail. His preliminary exam has been set for December 16 at 2 p.m.
