The Clare County Agricultural Society has been awarded $17,000 to help with bathroom renovations at the Harrison fairgrounds, state Rep. Joel Johnson announced today.
The award is half of the project proposal’s $34,000 price tag.
“This is great news for the fairgrounds and everyone who works so hard to promote our local agricultural heritage with the annual event and other activities throughout the year at the facility,” said Johnson, R-Clare. “These grants help make possible local projects that may otherwise may be out of reach, and frees up other critical resources that can be put toward additional improvements for area families to enjoy.”
The project was selected for the state’s County Fairs Capital Improvement Program, which provides Michigan’s county fairs funds for enhancement projects. The Legislature appropriated $301,600 for the program this year.
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development awarded grants between $2,525 and $20,000 for 22 improvement projects throughout Michigan.
