Michael Curtis, 48, of Gladwin, is behind bars facing charges of stealing a vehicle in Alpena, fleeing a traffic stop, intoxication while driving and with driving without a license.

Clare County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to stop the 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup Curtis was driving Sunday around 11 p.m. in Grant Township near Willow and Beaver Road when he fled.
Deputies had been called to the area because of a trespassing report and a report that Curtis was involved in a Roscommon County assault earlier in the evening.

Curtis refused to stop and fled across yards and a ditch before coming to a stop. He attempted to flee on foot, and was apprehended by the CCSD K-9 unit. Deputies learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Alpena.

At his arraignment Monday, the Clare County Prosecutor’s office charge Curtis with Stolen Property Receiving and Concealing-Motor Vehicle; Flee and Elude; Operating While Intoxicated, 2nd Offense; and Driving While License Suspended. 80th District Court Magistrate Karen set Curtis’s bond at $20,000/10 percent.

He remains lodged at the Clare County Jail.
