Dance school celebrates 60th year

September 15, 2019

The Newman School of Dance is celebrating its sixtieth anniversary this year! Claudia Newman began teaching dance in Maine during the 1950’s.

After settling home in the Central Michigan area in 1960, Mrs. Newman founded the Newman School of Dance in Clare, Michigan. The studio was sold to Jacqueline Newman Harrison in the fall of 2013. The Newman School of Dance offers beginner to advanced dance classes for dancers of all ages in Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Acrobatic Arts, and Musical Theatre. In recent years, The Newman School of Dance Aspire Performance Company has had the opportunity to travel to New York for the Rockette Experience and visited Walt Disney World to perform on the Disney Springs Stage and take class with Disney professionals.

Mrs. Newman continues to teach a variety of classes at the Newman School of Dance and most enjoys having her great-grandchildren as students! Their anniversary season kicks off this September and concludes with their annual spring recital in April.
