A crew demolishing a house on South Fourth Street in Harrison February 20 hit a gas line with heavy equipment causing a break in the line.
According to a release from Clare County Sheriff John Wilson, the line, one of two on the property, was thought to have been previously capped years ago when an adjacent house was demolished at the same address.
DTE Energy was called to cap the line and officials at the Sheriff’s Department, the jail, schools and area residents were all put on alert.
There were no injuries. Jerry Becker, Clare County Emergency Management Director, the Sheriff’s Department and Harrison Fire Department were on the scene.
