Dr. Julian Gershon’s face might not be as familiar to residents of the area as it used to be, but for 37 years he was an important part of the Clare Community.
He ran a successful family medical practice in Clare with his brother until his brother’s death, then continued his practice until 1989 when he sold the practice, “retired,” and moved to Englewood Florida.

He wasn’t retired for long though.  Now 92 years old, Dr. Gershon has just hung up his stethoscope for the last time, according to an article in the Englewood newspaper.  In Englewood he shared a practice, specializing in family medicine, with Dr. Todd Chace at the Millennium Group. In November, after 27 more years of practice, he is finally really retired.

Gershon, originally from New York, served during World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After the service he earned a Bachelor’s at college in New York and went on to A.T. Still University – Osteopathic Medicine located in Kirksville, Missouri and completed his internship at Grand Rapids Osteopathic Hospital.

Then he came to Clare and opened his practice here, where he was Clare’s athletic team physician and was County Medical Examiner, both for 30 years.

He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association. He was recently presented with a Lifetime Membership Award for outstanding achievement and dedication to the Osteopathic profession.
He and wife Betty were married for 62 years. She died last October. His retirement plans include travel, golf and helping out at the Salvation Army.
