They were in striking distance at the half but Farwell couldn’t stay with Jack Pine Conference leading Meridian for the entire game on Friday, falling to the host Mustangs 57-37.

“Bad third quarter,” Farwell head coach Erik Schunk said.

Seth Baginski, Trevor McComber and Curtis Robinson each hid two-point field-goals for the Eagles in a low-scoring first quarter as the Mustangs led just 10-6 after the first.

Baginski buried a three-pointer in the second quarter, while Walter Mosby, McComber and Trent Marhofer all hit shots as well, with Robinson adding a free-throw to keep the deficit within five at 21-16 at the half.

Farwell failed to hit a shot from the floor in the third quarter, adding just three free-throws while Meridian took control of the game with a 24-point quarter to lead 35-19 entering the fourth.

Farwell had its best quarter in the fourth, outscoring Meridian 18-12 in the frame, behind five points by Robinson but it wasn’t enough to get the Eagles back in the game.

Robinson led Farwell with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals, Marhofer had seven points and four boards, Baginski and Mosby both had five points, McComber had four, while Austin Hickey and Dylan Brown both had three.

Farwell (4-3 overall, 3-2 JPC) hosted Roscommon on Wednesday, plays at Gladwin tonight (Friday) and plays again on Wednesday at Coleman.
