Earl Riley Stickley, Jr. – age 80 of Lake, Michigan passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. He was born on April 7, 1934 the son of Earl and Willa (Liller) Stickley, Sr. in Rada, West Virginia. He enlisted in the United States Air Force serving during the Korean conflict for ten years. Earl then married Lucy “Susie” White on October 11, 1962 in Wayne County, Michigan. He worked as a test driver on Lincolns and Thunderbirds for Ford Motor Company.
After moving from Westland, Michigan, Earl and his wife Susie purchased the Reyers General Store in 1969 renaming it Lake General Store and also later purchased the Lake Hardware retiring in 1989. He became a real estate agent working for Scotts Realty in Lake. Earl was a life member of Fort Ashby VFW Post #6667; a charter member of the Lake Eagles #3761; and a life member of the DAV Chapter #105.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 51 years, Susie; his daughter Cindy and husband Donald Brewer of Mount Pleasant, MI; three sisters, Loretta Bennett of Mechanicsburg, PA, Catheryne Sisk and Barbara May both of Fort Ashby, WV; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, his dog “Diana”. Earl was preceded in death by parents Earl Riley Stickley, Sr. and Willa Stickley; two sisters, Betty Stickley, and Pauline Gainer and husband Ted; a brother, Steve Stickley; Beloved nephew Eddie Sisk.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Clare County Animal Shelter, 4038 Hazel Rd, Harrison, MI 48625; or to Woodland Hospice, 2597 S Meridian Rd, Mt Pleasant, MI. Cremation has taken place as per Earl’s request and a memorial service will be held at a later date in West Virginia.
