Elva Lea Lapham, age 85 of Clare, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at her home. Elva Lea was a loving gentle woman born the only child of the late Gordon and Elizabeth (Wildman) McIntosh on August 6, 1927 in Clare. Elva Lea graduated from Clare High School in 1945. She then obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Math from Central Michigan University in 1949 where she was a member of the Kappa Mu Epsilon Sorority.
She was united in marriage to Paul B. Lapham on February 10, 1952 in Marathon, Florida located in the Florida Keys. Elva Lea and Paul returned to Clare in 1958. Together they owned Paul B. Lapham and Associates, Inc. with Elva Lea running the office and the bookkeeping aspect of the business. Elva Lea was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church where she had been a member of the Choir and a Cantor. Elva Lee was also a member of the Clare High School Alumni Association; having served as its Secretary for many years.
Elva Lea is survived by her husband of 60 years Paul B. Lapham; her children Angela Lapham, Tim (significant other Jackie) Lapham, Sue Lapham, Mary (Mike) Hales, Beth (Randy) Elinski and Lisa (Steve) Thorburn; her grandchildren Jason (Jeanette) Lapham, Heather Brookshire, Adam (Melody) Hales, Brian (Morgan) Hales, Jordan Hales and Trevor, Meagan and Adriane Elinski; her great grandchildren Jacob, James, Jaelee, and Jaxon Lapham; Ryan and Brianna Hales. Elva Lea is also survived by numerous brother and sister-in-laws and their families whom she considered blessed to have.
Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home from 2-9 P.M with a Vigil Service at 7:30 P.M. Funeral services for Elva Lea will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church with Father Bill Rutkowski officiating.
