7-26-13 Pat-Clare County Fair BoardThe Clare County Fair Board has been around for more than 70 years and is the guardian responsible for the maintenance of the County fairgrounds. “We are the keepers of the fairgrounds,” said Vice President Jay Kleinhardt.

The board consists of 11 members elected from the Clare County Agricultural Society. The members are elected, in staggered terms for three years on the board. Four are elected in each of two years and three are elected in another year.

The board is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the fairgrounds in Harrison and they also schedule all of the events that are held there.

A 501-C3 non profit organization, the society is the owner of the fairgrounds and manage the property without any local, state or federal tax dollars. Funds are raised through special events scheduled there and of course the biggest event of the year is the Clare County Fair, which begins this weekend.

New fundraisers at this year’s fair include two raffles. For race enthusiasts, tickets will be sold to win a chance to drive in the USA Figure 8 Derby on July 30 at 7:30 p.m. Another raffle will be held August 3 at 7 p.m. when two beautiful handmade quilts will be given away. One is a queen size Country Love quilt and the other is a full-size Old Tyme Chair and Star quilt. The quilts were donated by the Fair Board.
