Farwell athlete dies in car accident

Jeremiah M. Lassen, 19, of Farwell, Michigan, and formerly of Mercersburg, PA died August 25, 2012 in Michigan from injuries received as a result of an automobile accident.

Born June 28, 1993 at Martinsburg, WV he was a son of Kelly J. Beard Lassen of Chambersburg, PA and the late Parley L. Lassen of Farwell, MI.

Jeremiah was a 2012 graduate of James Buchanan High School, Mercersburg, where he was a member of the track, wrestling, and football teams. He was an avid runner, fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a Dale Earnhardt, Jr. fan. His other interests included country music, dancing, and history. Jeremiah was a warm, peaceful, giving person who also enjoyed practical jokes.

He was a former member of Boy Scout Troop #28 of Mercersburg.

In addition to his mother he is survived by 2 sisters, his twin, Johannah R. Lassen, and Jillian Y. Lassen both of Chambersburg, 2 brothers, Justin L. Lassen of Houghton, MI, and Jordan E. Peck of Chambersburg. Also surviving are his mother’s fiancé, & a father figure for Jeremiah, Douglas E. Peck. Maternal grandmother, Gaye A. Sigler of Hagerstown, MD, maternal aunts, Sharon L. & husband David L. Barnhart, Suzanne & husband Timothy Hult, maternal uncles, Gary E. Gordon, and John R. Rodriquez, maternal cousins Brittany & Brendon Hult, paternal grandmother, Bonnie J. Lassen of Farwell, MI, , paternal aunt, Debbie & husband Bill Stieg, paternal uncle, Mike Lassen and wife Donna, paternal cousins, Tresa & husband Pete Barhitte, Deanna & husband Matthew Petoskey, and many other relatives, close family friends the Vosburg family, Justin Leister, Joshuua Carr, David Sutton & Amanda Commings. Jeremiah was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, John S. Beard, maternal Aunt Teresa Oullette and paternal grandfather, Gerald W. Lassen. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday September 4, 2012, at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg with Pastor Jeff Casto officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg. Visitation 5 to 9 PM Monday in the funeral home.
