Farwell baseball swept by Roscommon

The Farwell baseball team dropped a Jack Pine Conference twinbill to host Roscommon on Tuesday, falling to the Bucks 14-6 and 10-1.

Roscommon led 6-4 after the fifth and scored eight more times to pull away for the win.

Jacob Sutton took the loss on the mound, with Austin Hickey, Kyle Brandon and Chris Hemskerk both getting two hits and Dylan Brown, Kyle Spangler, Jordan Renner and Sutton each had a hit.

Hemskerk took the loss in game two, giving up five runs, two earned on five strikeouts and one walk.

Jordan Renner had two hits for the Eagles, while Hemskerk and Brown both added singles.

On Thursday, April 26 Farwell was swept by JPC opponent Gladwin, 14-4 and 16-0.

The visiting  Eagles scored four runs in the top of the first inning but couldn’t make them stand, as the Flying G’s plated 14 runs in six innings to force a six inning mercy.

Hemskerk took the loss on the mound, pitching four innings, giving up seven runs, five earned, on four hits, five strikeouts and five walks.

Brandon and Josh Riffe both had two hits in the game, Cody Cancross, Hemskerk, Hickey, Renner, Sutton and Quincy Crawford each added hits.

Sutton took the loss in game two, with Hickey and Brandon getting Farwell’s only hits.

On Wednesday, April 25 Farwell split with visiting Marion in a non-league doubleheader, falling 9-8 in game one and claiming an 11-4 win in game two.

Marion took an 8-0 lead in game one, with Farwell crawling all the way back to tie the game at eight and force extra innings, where Mario scored one run to win.

Trent Marhofer took the loss, with Brown, Spangler, Brandon and Hemskerk both getting two hits while Cancross, Hickey, Sutton and John Riffe each had a hit.

Farwell scored two runs in the first and three runs in the second to pick up the 11-4 win in the nightcap, with Hemskerk getting the win.

Riffe had two hits and an RBI, Cancross had a hit and two RBI, with Spangler and Sutton also adding hits.

Farwell (3-15 overall, 0-4 JPC) plays at Clare on May 8.
