Monday night’s Farwell Board of Education meeting center around honoring the accomplishments of students and athletes.

Teacher and Assistant Scout Leader April Frost presented Austin Mangus and outlined his accomplishment in earning the Eagle Scout award in the Boy Scouts of America.

Mangus organized and built three benches for the Farwell Methodist Church as his Eagle Scout project.

A graduate of Farwell High School, Mangus is now an assistant scout leader for the Farwell group.

Mrs. Frost and Teacher Duncan Gervin made a presentation lauding the accomplishments of Middle and High School Students in the recent Science Olympiad.

The teams earned a first and several other awards in their projects including the power division and metrology. They completed with seven teams and demonstrated some of their projects to the board. “It was an incredible year, Gervin said.

Bowling Coach John Gross related that the Farwell Girls Bowling Team not only had their best season on record, but that the team broke six of the eight school records this year including, High Team Average of 150, High Team Game of 961, High Team Series of 1791 and High Baker Game Series of 338.

He said the Team is recognized as a 2018 Academic All-State Team with a minimum combined GPA of 3.55.

Gross said Jaedalin Wilson broke the highest season average record with a 167.1 for 24.6 games and that Jillian Yule set a new two High Series record of 422.He said Hannah Averill, Rebecca Gross and Wilson individually qualified for Division 3, All-State 3rd Team based on games bowled, conference average, academic GPA and Regional Singles Tournament point.

Seniors Hannah Averill, Jaedalin Wilson and Kaylee Shook qualified for the Division 3 All Academic Team.

FHS Students of the month also honored Monday night included 8th grader Olivia Moss, Freshman Logan Wunderlich, Sophomore Aleia Allbee, Junior Lyndsi Hanna and Senior Megan Marhofer.

During public comment, Karen Cook noted that she would like to see a comeback for the Earth Science salmon program.

Other business at the BOE meeting included:

*Accepting the resignations of Daniel Coronado and Jan Theisen; and the retirement of Jill Albaugh.

*Approval of hiring Title I paraprofessional Heather Prout.

*Approval to hire Valerie Beardsley as a part-time fiscal assistant for the business manager.

*Approval of the $22,983 purchase of projectors as part of the Title 5 Part B Federal Grant.

*Approval of budget amendments to both revenues and expenditures. The district fund balance has decreased from 8 to 7 percent for the end of the school year.

*The board approved the payment of bills totaling $443,115.59.
