Continuing a tradition that began 107 years ago, the Farwell Labor Day Celebration begins next Friday afternoon and continues through Monday. There are lots of activities planned for the entire family.
Some of the activities include: carnival rides, the Figure 8 Demolition Derby, musical entertainment, fireworks, and much more. Monday at 10 a.m. is the largest parade in the area, the annual Labor Day Parade down Main Street. This year’s theme is “Looney Tunes” and registration for the parade begins Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. with line-up at Isabella Bank. The parade begins at 10 a.m.
Some of the special events for the celebration will include: Village Wide Community Yard Sales all weekend long; the USA Figure 8 Derby on both Saturday and Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. with fireworks following the Sunday races at 10 p.m.
Saturday’s race will begin after the track is dedicated in a special ceremony to long-time race and Labor Day supporter Mike Hamilton, Sr., who died there July 6th of a sudden heart attack.
Schmidt Amusements will provide the entertainment for the fair and three performances of “Magic by Jania” will be held Saturday at 1, 3, and 5 p.m. under the Pavilion.
The Mt Pleasant Music Studio will present “School of Rock” with instructor Ross Howel,l performing on the Open Stage on Monday, September 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. (weather permitting).
Entertainment on the open stage is also planned Friday at 5 p.m.
From 3 to 8 p.m. Friday is the time set for entering exhibits. On Saturday, exhibits may be entered at 11 a.m.
Saturday events will include the Labor Day 5K & Half Marathon with registration at the Farwell Little League Field from 8 to 8:45 a.m. and the race beginning at 9 a.m.
Saturday at noon, the Midway and a Petting Zoo opens, and from noon to 3 p.m. the Entertainment Stage will have contest performers and fun. Also from noon to 3 p.m. and again from 5 to 8 p.m., the Locks of Love Fundraiser will be held under the Pavilion.
Carnival Bingo, Texas Hold-Em and the magic show all begin at 1 p.m. Saturday with two more magic shows at 3 and 5 p.m. and more Carnival Bingo at 4 p.m.
The Red Hat Strutters will be on the Entertainment Stage at 6 p.m. and the Derby begins at 7:30.
Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon, exhibits will be judged.
The Midway, Petting Zoo and Free Senior Bingo all begin at noon while Carnival Bingo and Texas Hold-Em begin at 1 p.m. Also at 1 p.m., Steven D and the Keys will perform on the Entertainment Stage.
At 4 p.m. it is more Carnival Bingo and from 4 to 7 p.m. Party Time Entertainment will be on the Entertainment Stage.
Sunday’s Figure 8 Derby and the fireworks will wind up the day.
Monday the Midway will open at 11 a.m. following the parade down Main Street at 10 a.m.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. there will be a FUMC Pulled Pork Dinner at the Senior Community Center.
Back at the Grandstand, Lawn Tractor Pulls begin and the Pet Parade will begin. The Kids Bicycle Drawing is set for 1 p.m. and Carnival Bingo also begins at 1 p.m.
School of Rock will perform on the Entertainment Stage from 2 to 4 p.m.
Exhibits may be picked up at 2 p.m. and the Labor Day Celebration events will wind up for another year at 4 p.m.
