Host Beaverton topped Farwell in Tuesday night’s Jack Pine Conference girls basketball game, handing the Lady Eagles a 53-27 loss.
“We got off to a pretty slow start,” Farwell head coach Tom Kleinhardt said. “When you do that, it’s not a good deal. We played better in the second and third quarters but we never did recover from our slow start.”
The Lady Beavers held Farwell scoreless in the first frame, taking a 12-0 lead. The Lady Eagles scored 10 points in the second quarter to Beaverton’s 11 to make it 23-10 at the half. Beaverton outscored Farwell 14-11 in the third and 16-6 in the fourth to secure the win.
“We actually had some pretty good looks, we just didn’t get them to fall in,” Kleinhardt said. “The kids are working hard, it’s hard to be upset because they are working their butts off. Things will turn around sooner or later.”
Kate Saupe led the Eagles with 10 points and five rebounds, Jenna McKinley scored five and Caron White tallied four.
On Friday, the Eagles picked up a 28-27 over visiting Houghton Lake in another JPC contest.
Farwell led 12-6 after the first and 20-10 at the half but had to hold on to the one point win as the Lady Bobcats outscored them 9-2 in the third and 8-6 in the fourth.
Jenna Hamming led the team with nine points and 10 rebounds in the win, with White adding seven points and eight boards.
Farwell (1-2 overall, 1-2 JPC) overall hosted Harrison on Thursday and play at Beal City on Tuesday.
