Farwell Labor Day Celebration

Once again, the Village of Farwell is gearing up for the annual Labor Day Celebration, their 106th, this year, making the event the longest continuous running Festival in the State of Michigan.

The Celebration runs Today, August 31 through September 3rd in the Village of Farwell.

The Farwell Labor Day Celebration, held at the Farwell Fairgrounds, is also the second largest event in Clare County, second only to the Clare County Fair.

The four-day festival brings visitors from all over the State and features entertainment,

carnival attractions, home exhibits and on Saturday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., performances of the annual Figure 8 Derby.

A fireworks display will follow the Figure 8 Derby at dusk on Saturday night.

On Labor Day morning the biggest parade in Clare County will wind through the Village for more than an hour beginning at 10 a.m. Parade registration begins at the Little League Field at 8:30 a.m.

This year’s theme is “Music Explosion.”

Once again, Schmidt Amusements will provide the carnival midway, which opens Friday at 3 p.m., at noon on Saturday and Sunday, and at 11 a.m. on Labor Day.

The Entertainment schedule this year in the Beverage Tent includes:  a Karaoke contest Friday from 8 p.m. to Midnight; “Detour” from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday night; and a live country band Sunday evening from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Other entertainment for the festival includes:

  • Gordon the Magician under the Pavilion at 1 p.m. Saturday and 3 and 5 p.m. Saturday;
  • a Karaoke contest for all ages on the stage Saturday at 3 p.m.; the Red Hat Strutters at 6 p.m. on the stage;
  • the Entertainment Stage Open from 1-5 p.m. Sunday;
  • Cage Fighting in the Grandstand Sunday at 6 p.m.;
  • Lawn Tractor Pulls in the Grandstand both Sunday and Monday at noon; and
  • “School of Rock” on the Entertainment Stage from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday.

There’s more. Contests and Games for all ages will be held Friday from 6-8 p.m. on the Entertainment Stage; contests performers and fun on the stage Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.; Carnival Bingo Friday at 1 p.m., Saturday at 4 p.m., Sunday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. and on Monday at 1 p.m.

Texas Hold-Em starts at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday in the Bingo Building.

Especially for the little ones, a Petting Zoo opens at noon on Saturday and Sunday and the annual Pet Parade is set for noon on Monday.

There will be a Kids Bicycle Drawing at the Open Stage on 1 p.m. Monday afternoon.

The whole family will enjoy the FUMC Chicken BBQ at the Senior Center on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Along with the entertainment, adults will enjoy a Beverage Tent open from 6 to Midnight on Friday, and 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Farwell United Methodist Church will sponsor a Chicken BBQ on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Senior Center.

Village-Wide Community Yard Sales will be ongoing all weekend long in Farwell and don’t forget to make time to see all of the home exhibits, which are entered Friday from 3 to 8 p.m., and Saturday at 11 a.m. and judged on Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon.
