first birthday and then adopted by the age of three by Patsy and Dale Thrush.  He is a fun loving young man who has an infectious smile and loves to make people laugh.  He has also lived most of his short 11 years in fear to participate in sports.  He has worried he would be hurt or killed if he hit one of the tumors in his head the wrong way.

Tyrek has NF1 (Neurofibromatosis), which  is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form on nerve tissue. These tumors can develop anywhere in your nervous system, including your brain, spinal cord and nerves.  This disease can cause hearing impairment/loss, heart and blood vessel problems, loss of vision, and severe pain.

Last year around this time Tyrek was given some of the best news.  He was in what the doctor called remission.  He cleared him to participate in sports.  He was so excited he decided he wanted to try wrestling.  The problem with that is because of this disease he has some sensory, cognitive, and behavioral issues.  One of those issues is with touch.  He doesn’t like to touch people nor does he enjoy being touched.  This did not deter him from wanting to give wrestling a try.  He really just wanted to be a part of the team.  He started wrestling for Farwell Elite Wrestling.

A typical wrestling match for Tyrek last for less than 10 seconds.  At which point he is generally pinned by his opponent.  January 12, that changed for Tyrek.  He was wrestling a NEMWA tournament in Bay City, being ran by the Bay County Road Runners.  He had already had two typical matches, he was quickly pinned by his opponent.  At that point one of the Bay County coaches walked up and asked if Tyrek has ever won a match.  No, No he hasn’t.  The coach (Jeremy Kukulski) asked if Tyrek could wrestle one more match against his son Izaak.  The match was set.  Tyrek and Izaak met on the mat.  It was a very special match to watch.

Tyrek went out there at first unsure how to actually wrestle the match a little timid to try and go for the win.  As the match continued you could see his confident building and him actually performing wrestling moves on Izaak.  Until finally he was able to pin Izaak.  Tyrek jumped up off that mat excited to have his first win under his belt.

Izaak was a gracious opponent.  He presented Tyrek with his very own champion ring.  Both boys were grinning ear to ear with their accomplishments for the day.  Each boy had their own victories!  Both boys had climbed a mountain and learned many lessons from each other Saturday.  Most importantly they had formed a bond that they will never forget.”
