While visiting this year’s Clare County Fair, visitors won’t want to miss a unique event going on in the Lion’s Building.

Local quilters from Clare County will be showing off their work, including new, classic and even antique quilts at a special Quilt Display in the Lion’s Building at the Clare County Fair!

The fair building, formerly the home of “Bingo” has become a venue to display some of the best and most unique quilts around.

Developed by Cathy Gunden to replace the bingo event formerly held in the building, the display, which will not be judged, is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday (July 23rd to July 26th). The show will feature between 60 and 80 quilts on display of both new and even antique works of art provided by local quilters in the area.

This year’s quilt show theme will be teaching. Each day from 1 to 5 p.m. quilters will be teaching four youngsters at a time how to put a quilt block together. Kids that sew a quilt block will be entered into a drawing to win a sewing machine and sewing kit. The drawing will be held Saturday July 27th, but you do not need to be present to win.

The blocks made by the students will be made into a quilt which will be displayed at next year’s fair, Gunden said.

Youngsters ages 8 to 18, who are interested in learning how to make a quilt block can stop in at the display and sign up. Sign up will be held every half hour.
