Clare Fire Chief James Chapman said he wanted to thank Ben Sweatland, the property owner who allowed the Fire Department to use the water from their pond to help fight a barn fire last Sunday morning.
The fire completely destroyed a barn and its contents including equipment and about 1,200 bales of hay at Nevill Farms on South Eberhart near Beaverton, owned by Don and Deb Nevill,. “We can’t estimated a loss, Chapman said. We aren’t sure of the value of the equipment that was destroyed.” He said seven fire departments assisted Clare at the scene: Surrey, Harrison, Coleman, Beaverton, and Gladwin. It took about four hours to extinguish the blaze Chapman said. The American Red Cross and the Surrey Point Convenience Store also assisted by helping the firefighters.
