The family home of Gabe and Christine Grandsden at 807 Wheaton in the city of Clare was engulfed in flames this Monday afternoon. The Clare Fire Department’s crew was on the scene by 3:30 and had the fire fully contained within 45 minutes. Sam Eberhart of the Clare Fire Department said they tried to contain the fire to the garage area but that the flames were pushing them back so hard it pushed the crew back out of the house. There were no human casualties in the flames, no one was home at the time of the fire. The family dog did not make it through the blaze.

By 6:15 the crew was checking for hot spots, performing clean up and helping the family try to salvage anything they could from the devastation.  You could see family friends carrying items from the burnt home to the family’s vehicle. Emotions were high as family and friends surrounded them in support.
