Clare Chief Jim Chapman said, “It was a joint training exercise for ice water rescues by practicing techniques and learning about donning rescue suits.”

He said to prepare for the training they went to Lake Shamrock where they had to chop through two feet of ice. Fire fighters got into the icy waters and were “rescued” by teammates.

“It’s dangerous work,” he said. “We try to practice every year to sharpen our skills and be prepared for an emergency.”
