Freeway accident claims Adrian woman’s life

An Adrian woman lost her life New Year’s Day when the driver of a vehicle she was a passenger in lost control on US-127 and struck a tree in the ditch.

The accident happened south of Arnold Lake road in Hayes Township. The driver was 53 year-old Craig Baker of Palmyra. The passenger, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was Jennifer Jolicoeur, 39, of Adrian.

Speed and poor weather conditions contributed to the accident, according to deputies from the Clare County Sheriff’s Department. Reportedly Baker called the Sheriff’s Department to say he had lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree in the ditch on the east side of the freeway. Deputies said the 2002 Ford F-250 was traveling north on US-127.

Baker was taken to MidMichigan Medical Center – Clare for treatment. He was later transferred to MMMC- Midland for treatment of his injuries.

Harrison Fire/Rescue, Mobile Medical Response Ambulance, the Clare County Road Commission and the Clare County Accident Investigation Team assisted the Sheriff’s Department at the scene.
