84 attended “The Art of Gardening” a garden tour sponsored by the Clare County Arts Council. 4 beautiful and interesting gardens in the Clare area were toured last weekend.

This year’s event included: the garden of Ken & Theresa Ames of Clare; the garden of Kim & Bruno Persyn of Clare; and the garden of Jim Chapman & Janette Schumacher of Farwell.

The final stop was the host spot for this year’s event—the Clare Union Railroad Depot–where everyone was invited to see the new landscaping, tour the interior of the depot, and had a chance to bid on the ironing boards that had been painted by artists and had been on display throughout Clare, Farwell, & Harrison, and culminated with final bidding in a silent auction.
In addition to these gardens there was the opportunity to tour the Jackson Street Chapel.

Over the last 3 years Dan & Laurie Shively have worked to restore the building, built in 1863, to its former self.

This facility is available for rent by contacting the owners.

For door prizes a $30 gift certificate donated by Timeout Tavern was awarded to Shelli Watson of Mt. Pleasant; a $20 gift certificate donated by the Herrick House &Mulberry Cafe was awarded to Carol Beatty of Clare; and a Naturalist birdfeeder and 5 lbs. of bird seed donated by Johnston Elevator of Clare was awarded to Cherlyn Seneshen of Clare.

The CCAC raised $884 from this year’s event.
