Clare County Commissioner Jim Gelios says the family “couldn’t be prouder of him,” when referring to his nephew David P. Gelios, head of the FBI Detroit Division.

The Gelios nephew has been in the news as special agent in charge of the million dollar bribery scandal involving 14 former and current principals and assistant principals in Detroit Public Schools and a suburban school supply vendor. Bribes have been paid out over 13 years a two-year investigation alleges.
The Gelios family has produced a squad of its own, so to speak. Jim retired from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department inn 1990. His late brother had worked for the Oak Park Police Department. It was he who influenced Jim’s career.

Jim’s son James R. Gelios followed in his father’s footsteps at the same department. He retired about 10 years ago.

Jim couldn’t say who influenced David or why he entered law enforcement. Law enforcement “was in the family. If we got together, we didn’t talk about it. We didn’t live it 24/7.”
