The girls of Troop 50831, chose a sustainable project they could do together to help their community.

They had a lot of ideas, but since they all enjoy reading; they decided to build a lending library for kids to enjoy at the park.

They had several park areas that they thought the lending library would be a great fit, but then decided on Imagination Gateway Park.

Several girls from the troop drew up plans and then they met to vote on their favorite. The most popular vote was on the barn style library. Funding for the project came from money the troop earned selling Girl Scout cookies and they were also able to utilize donated materials. To build the library, they met after school and on weekends, with the help of the volunteer dads who cut the wood pattern out and guided the girls through the building project.

The girls sanded, primed, painted, built and roofed the library, spending over 20 collective hours. Collecting boxes of books donated by their friends and families was one of their favorite parts. They are excited to see the children in Clare reading and lending books for years to come.

Troop 50831 presented the Clare Parks and Recreation Advisory Board with the lending library during their October meeting.
