Gladwin Art Guild prepares for show

The Gladwin Area Artist Guild Show Committee has been hard at work since May preparing for the 18th Annual Art Show & Sale to be held Friday, September 14, 8-13-18 Com Feat Gladwin Art Guild Preps for Show and Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10:00am – 5:00pm indoors at the City Park Community Building. The entrance to City Park is located between the courthouse and Sheriff’s Dept. on Cedar Ave. in Gladwin.

Admission is free and the public is encouraged to “come as you are” and enjoy the exhibit, as well as the Awards Reception from 5:00 – 7:00pm on Friday. Those in attendance that evening will meet 2018 Art Judge Philip Hanson, Art Dept. faculty at SVSU, and learn from his comments about the works he chose for cash and ribbon awards in three categories: Theme, Photography and General.

The 2018 theme, Animal World, will appeal to all age groups, so bring the entire family. In addition to the competition the event will feature original art, prints and unique cards for sale. A daily raffle of beautiful works provided by 2017 award-winners will also be held each day. Tickets are just $1 each or six for $5 and raffle winners do not have to be present to win.

Twenty-two Guild members entered into the competition with fifty-three original works of art. Nineteen are in Theme and a record sixteen extraordinary photos will compete. in Photography. Subject matter in both Photography and General varies widely, so there will be something for everyone to enjoy at this show.

Mediums shown will include acrylic, fabric art, pastel, color pencil, oil, watercolor, photographs and mixed media.

It is the commitment of the Gladwin Guild to bring art opportunities to the community. This show and sale is just one activity on the schedule during the organization’s 20th year as a nonprofit in Gladwin County.
