Groups donate defibrillator to Timberland

September 13, 2018

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Clare Youth Action Council (YAC), VFW Post 3039, Timberland has an automated external defibrillator (AED) on 9-14-18 Timberland Grantcampus. Starting this school year, the staff and students at Timberland will have access to an AED which is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiac issues and then treat them through defibrillation with the application of electricity which allows the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.

The cost of an AED is expensive, but the benefits of potentially saving a life are incalculable. The AED at Timberland came with a price tag of $1325. The Clare County Community Foundation covered $750, the VFW Post 3039 covered $200 and Farwell Area Schools covered the remaining $375 to make this valuable resources possible.

Dr. Yarger, principal at Timberland Alternative Education stated, “Each year we hear the terrifying news stories of students with cardiac issues in physical education class or on the athletic playing fields, knowing it can happen anywhere. Through the support of the YAC and VFW, Timberland will now be equipped to support our students and staff within seconds if ever there is a life-threatening issue at Timberland. It’s a great feeling to see the collaborative efforts successfully come together to put safety first.”
