Hamilton crash kills Lake woman

A two-vehicle crash on the corner of Clarence and Athey Avenue killed a Lake woman Monday evening. Police were called to the scene of the accident at 6:30 p.m. According to a release from the Clare County Sheriff’s Department, Sharon Somers, 29 of Lake, was westbound in a blue Ford Taurus on Clarence when she apparently didn’t stop at the intersection of Athey and drove into the path of a northbound blue Jeep Patriot driven by Shawn Lewis, 28 of Harrison. Somers was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Her passenger, Steven Somers, 13 of Lake was transported by LifeNet helicopter to Saginaw Covenant Hospital with serious injuries.

Undersheriff Dwayne Miedzianowski said the teen was released from the hospital on Wednesday. Lewis sought treatment at MidMichigan Medical Center – Clare, the release said. Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene of the accident by Mobile Medical Response Ambulance, LifeNet, the Harrison Fire Department and the CCSD Accident Reconstruction Team. The accident remains under investigation.
