A $2,000 grant from Consumers Energy Forestry Operations recently provided 20 new trees for the Clare community.

Mary Warner, who wrote the grant for the City said, “We planted 20 trees this year, Cherry, Crimson King Maple, Purple Prince Crabapple & Japanese Ivory Silk Lilac. Sixteen were planted on the right of way of our city streets, two in Shamrock Park and two in Cherry Grove Cemetery. The trees were purchased from Elm Creek in Farwell.

Each year Consumers Energy Company – Forestry Operations Department provides funds to assist local municipalities with tree planting projects that focus on appropriate selection of tree species and planting locations on lands open to the public.

Consumers Energy sponsors the program annually to encourage responsible tree planting and sustainable urban forests in communities across the state.
