Clare County veterans will be honored, and celebrated on Monday, November 11th.
Veteran’s Day is celebrated on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11 a.m. to mark the date when Germany and the allies signed a 1918 agreement to cease World War I hostilities. The fighting ceased on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Clare County continues that tradition this year with ceremonies at all three area schools.

Farwell High school will host their annual Veterans’ Day Ceremony Monday at approximately 9 a.m. in the Jaime Performing Arts Center. ALL Veterans are invited to join the ceremony. “Superintendent Steven Scoville said, “We appreciate everything the veterans have done to support us and would like to honor them at this ceremony. If you are a veteran and plan to attend, please arrive around 8:40 a.m. to fill out an information sheet. Following the ceremony we will have refreshments for all veterans along with our student speakers.”
The Clare-Farwell American Legion Post 558 located at 400 E. Ludington Drive just east of Farwell, will start off the day with a pancake and sausage breakfast (veterans eat free and others by donation) from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and will participate in the annual ceremony at the Farwell Village Park at 11 a.m. where the Sparta-Esterline VFW Post 3039 will hold a short Veteran’s Day Ceremony. Members of the VFW Post, the Farwell High School Band and the Village Manager will be present.

In Clare, area veterans are invited to a special program and refreshments at the Clare High School annual Veteran’s Day Program on November 11, Monday, with that program starting at 9 a.m. in the high school gymnasium with the central these to thank our veterans for their service.
The Clare High School band will perform several selections, as will current student vocalists. Refreshments and an art show will immediately follow the program in the high school commons.

In Harrison Veterans Day Ceremonies will be held Monday November 11 at Veterans Freedom Park, 200 West Main Street across for the Clare County Building. Immediately following the service, the public is invited to a luncheon at the VFW Post 1075 in Harrison (across from the Dairy Queen)
At 1 p.m. all veterans will be honored at the Harrison High School Veterans Day Program, held at the high school at 700 South 5th Street. Everyone is encouraged to attend. The program will feature local speakers, HHS alumni veterans and music provided by the Harrison High School Band.
Refreshments will be provided for veterans and their families.
A Harrison District Library flyer notes that in the evening on November 11th guests can enjoy a Free Chili & Bread Dinner with dessert at a Veterans Day Silent Auction & Dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will be held at the Harrison Lions Club on the Clare County Fairgrounds. The Silent Auction, which closes at 7:30 p.m., will benefit the Surrey House Renovation Project. There will be music and entertainment featuring James Warner’s Elvis Tribute Show from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and a Special Raffle will be held for veterans.
